Dave's TV Debut

So Dave and Scott were on Good Things Utah this morning. They did a great job. Amy and I were pretty nervous for the guys. I don't think they were that nervous. I don't have a clip of it yet but I am pretty sure that I will get one tomorrow. Dave said that he needs to get used to the TV coverage because there will be TV cameras all around when he is elected senator! (Just kidding-but this was his response to the question, "are you nervous?") Attending the taping was pretty cool, espescially because we got special treatment. They let us into the studio early and showed us around a little bit. They also taped their 4th of July episode so we stayed for both tapings. We were able to do that because of my terrific baby-sitter, Kristy. I swear that she is the baby whisperer. I have not met a baby that did not love Kristy. It also helps that I have discovered rice cereal. We tried the bottle with Andrew, it worked for a while but he refuses to take one at all now. It is so nice to know that I can leave him and he won't cry because he is hungry. If only his insides could work a little faster at digesting it!

Paradise in Sugarhouse

I made the greatest discovery this weekend. I found my favorite bakery from Texas in Utah. Who knew that they existed here! I was so excited. Unfortanatly they are pretty far away but they are building one closer to me but it isn't suppose to open until next spring. This bakery makes the absolute best sugar cookies. They are sooooo bad for you I am sure but they are delicious. Now I won't have to fly to Texas to fulfill my cravings!

So Dave decided that we can officially say that Andrew can sit up. He can sit up for a long time by himself but when he starts to fall he doesn't understand how to catch himself. Therefor, when he falls, he falls hard. He is loves his new found freedom. It is great to be able to sit him on a blanket and surround him by toys. I feel that I am actually starting to get stuff done, somewhat.

Well, I probably should help Dave do the dishes. Lets just say every counter in the kitchen has a dirty dish on it and our kitchen isn't that small!

Dutch Oven Baked Ziti

So last Saturday we had a DOG (Dutch Oven Gathering) at a park in Lehi. Dave is working on new recipe for bread for worlds so he put me in charge of the main dish. The bread he is making has an italian feel (inspired by a bread served at Rob's wedding for all that attended, it was sooo good), so I wanted to do an italian dish. I found this recipe for baked ziti and it turned out really good. Of course you don't have to make it in a dutch oven, I am sure a 9x13 would work. Try it out. (The picture doesn't do it justice, it was a lot prettier before it was eaten.)

1 lb ziti pasta

1 onion

1 lb ground beef

2 26 oz jars spaghetti sauce

6 ounces sliced provolone

1 1/2 cups sour cream

6 ounces mozzarella-grated

2 T parmesean

Boil ziti for 8 minutes (al dente). Brown onion and hamburger, add spaghetti sauce and simmer for 15 minutes. Butter dish (I didn't do this and it came out fine). Layer in the following order-1/2 ziti, provolone, sour cream, 1/2 sauce, 1/2 ziti, mozzarella, 1/2 sauce, parmesan. Bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees.

Emotions

One of my favorite parts of watching Andrew grow up is when he feels a new emotion. For example, the first time he got scared was when Dave picked him up from the ground and spun him around 360 degrees in the process. Now he loves for Dave to throw him around. I am pretty sure that today was the first time that Andrew got mad at me. Every day before his morning nap I take Andrew up to his room and we sit in the rocking chair and I read him books. Lately, he doesn't want to listen to the books, he just wants to eat them. Of course all babies do this so I just let him because it isn't worth fighting him. Today the book started to smell like the glue they use to keep the pages together so I decided we were done chewing the book. So I took the book away from him. Andrew just turned towards me and looked up and started bawling. Instantly there was a HUGE tear down his cheek. I could not believe it. He was sooooo mad. I almost started to laugh. Luckily, his anger was an easy fix, stand up and sway. Too bad that method won't work when he is a teenager!

Happy Father's Day!

I just wanted to say Happy Father's Day to Dave, my dad, and Les. They are all wonderful men. Today has been a lazy day but that is just how Dave wanted it. It was so good that both Dave and I were able to take a nap because Andrew took a 2 1/2 hour nap. Those kind of naps are very rare with him so I am guessing it was his Father's Day gift to his dad.

Andrew is getting his first tooth. It is the bottom right one. He hasn't been too cranky but he has had a few problems. He will be chewing on a toy and then all of a sudden he will burst into tears. I am guessing that the area is pretty sensitive and when he hits it, it hurts. I will try to get a picture when the tooth is a little bigger but as for right now, it is just a white dot on his gum.

(These pictures are from when the Jazz where in the Playoffs but they are some of my favorite father and son pics I have.)

Let's do lunch

I am pretty lucky to have Dave only work 12 minutes from home. When I first quit my job he would come home for lunch every once in a while. After Andrew was born we figured out that if I packed up a lunch and I picked him up from work we had more time together because we didn't have to deal with the commute time. This has become one of Andrew and I's favorite time of day. We go to a near by park and we get to each lunch and spend time with Daddy. It is great.

Welcome Allie!

So we just got back from visiting Cheryl, Scott and Allie in the hospital. She is absolutely darling. I have decided her and Andrew will have to be friends because they decided to come into this world exactly the same. The same doctor discovered they were breech, the same doctor delivered them by C-section. Hopefully Cheryl can recover quickly. I know it isn't easy but the babies are soooo worth it.

With all the excitement of Maria getting her TV debut I wanted to make everyone aware that Dave and Scott will be on Good Things Utah on June 27. Hopefully I will be able to but the video segment on my blog. They will be demonstrating their beef tenderloin and lobster. I will keep you posted!

Take Me Out to the Ball Game...

Tonight was Andrew's first baseball game. Let's just say it went 100 times better than the Jazz game. The very first play we saw was kind of crazy, with a lot of base runners getting tagged out. Dave got a little excited and it scared Andrew, but after that he grew accustomed to the noise and it was good. Dave almost caught Andrew a foul ball, but unfortunatly was unsuccesful because he was holding Andrew at the same time. Don't worry, Andrew was not put in any danger. Tomorrow we are pretty sure that our ward is getting split, along with four other wards in our subdivision. Our ward is so big that we don't know that many people. I am sure the people I do know pretty well will still be in our ward because they all live in the townhomes.

3 Years

So I have decided to succomb to the world of blogging. I love sharing pictures with my mom and family and this seems to me to be the easiest way. I guess this is my trial run and we will see how it works out. Thanks for checking it out.

Here are some pictures from our last weekend adventure. We decided to hike Ensign Peak. It was almost exactly 3 years from the day that Dave and I first hiked the peak and he proposed. It was a lot of fun, but it was hot. I am just glad that Dave carried Andrew. Andrew was pretty pleasant the whole time and by the time we made it down he was dead asleep. Poor guy!
